About LC and Lentils

LC eats oysters in New Orleans

I’m LC, a 20-something San Francisco transplant from Washington, D.C., and I love lentils. Interestingly (to me anyway) I hate pretty much all kinds of beans and actually used to hate lentils too until I lived abroad in Madrid my junior year of college. The senora I was staying with made lentil soup the way you’re supposed to eat lentil soup – after it’s simmered all day long with chorizo and marrow bones fresh from the butcher. Man, I could eat those lentils cold, hot, after they’d been sitting out for hours, whatever.

Mostly, I wanted to write a blog about food because it’s probably what I think most about on a daily basis. I noticed that all my pictures seem to be of food – or drinks – and I am constantly compiling information about healthy eating, gourmet eating, raw food eating, vegetarian/vegan eating, lentil eating, and all the drinking you can do while you’re eating.

Coming from DC, I’m already excited about the new options for going out and experiencing a completely different kind of city, and way of eating. Also, you can get an avocado here for 79 cents which is unfrekinbelieveable and should help me on my life-long quest to find a winning combination of avocados and lentils.

  1. Love the blog…not just cause your my daughter, (well maybe) but because it is fun to read, and it is making me really hungry…can’t wait to check out that sushi place when we come to San Fran at Thanksgiving….

  2. Haha, love the comment from “your mother”!

In Taiwan they have some really good lentils too…. But they always eat beans with sugar, eating salty beans is weird here. There’s this sweet lentil soup that they have here that’s great…

My fav. dessert here is sweet red beans on snow ice (a variant of ice cream)!

    • I just tried commenting on your most recent blog post and couldn’t figure it out! Would love to come eat lentils with you in Taiwan 🙂

  3. LC! So glad to see you are taking your creative ideas and love of life and combining them on a blog. Let Them Eat Lentils is sure to be a must read. Keep it up. 🙂

  4. It is amazing just how cheap the avocados are in CA. When I visit my BF in San Diego, they put avocados on everything. I swear it’s heaven on Earth.

  5. I’m drooling over that “deliciosa paella”!!!

  6. LC- Kathy turned us on to your blog- great stuff and glad to see you and G are settling in so well out there. Enjoy Wine Country next week with the Fam.

  7. Welcome to Northern CA!

  8. Hey LC!! I’m from outside DC!! Close but not anymore, huh? I haven’t ever prepared lentils for myself–only in dishes while eating out. I’ll have to look into some tasty recipes. Thanks for the comment on my blog!

    • Thanks for reading!! How far outside are you?? Would love to offer some suggestions for place to eat/hang out any time you need them. 🙂 I grew up in Bethesda so right outside as well.

  9. Your Cousin Chris

Hi Cuz…nice blog. I had no idea you were doing this. I’m sure I’ll be combing it on a regular basis for food and recipe tips. Well done!

Say hello to G…and your brother as well.

  10. Whoa. So 2 things:

    B. VEGAN? no more Florida Bratwurst? Lemme know how it goes!

Ill be in Cali for GOOD as of this Friday! Maybe you and G can introduce me to lentils sometime soon?

  13. Vince Vallely was a friend of mine. Thanks for the great photos of him, and your comments. So far, I have not heard about any viewing, funeral, etc. Have you heard anything?

    Blessings,
    JB

  14. I love that your mom comments on your blog, SO DOES MINE!! It’s always reassuring to have parents as number one fans, so supportive! I love talking to my parents about my blog because they give me the best advice, and my friends don’t really understand my passions. Love your blog and look forward to hearing from you soon! Nora

  15. Hi LC! Thanks for commenting on my new blog! I love lentils too, though I have never made them “fresh” at home, only when dining out or out of a can of lentil soup! Maybe I’ll get some ideas from your blog 🙂

  16. I just found your blog and see your comment that you grew up in Bethesda. I did too!

  17. Will you teach me to love lentils, too? My husband does. And so do my parents. But the bacon and onions they make them with seem to be a waste of good lentils and good bacon and onions. Welcome to the SF bay. Those of us who grew up here believe 79 cent avocados to be an inalienable right.

  18. Im excited about your blog! I just moved to Davis to attend UCD! I am itchinggg to go to San Frannn. I have only been twice in my life. Coming from Austin, I miss the city!

  19. Haaaaa, this is awesome! I totally hate beans (the only way I’ve every liked them was a sweet adzuki bean paste filling in a mochi rice cake), but I like lentils! I’m not so used to eating them by now and pretty much only know the red and yellow ones, but those I like a lot! 🙂

San Francisco is awesome, I’ve been there once and cried when we left. It’s one of the (few) cities I’d really like to live.

  20. You can t land a plane with “why you ain t ” You can t be a doctor with that kind of crap coming out of your mouth.

  21. Hi there,

I just noticed you have a passion for lentils, as do I. I’m live between Canada and Tokyo and five years ago, I worked with a University in Saskatchewan to develop a lentil energy bar – the first of it’s kind. We have two flavours currently, I’d love if you took a peak. Power to the lentils!
